Hi, this is Mike Yublosky and today I want to give you my simple definition of an artificial intelligence, or AI chatbot.
AI chatbots are, in essence, massive computers that can read and digest an enormous amount of content.
That content can be either written or spoken.
Chatbots analyze that data, and when you ask it a question or make a request it quickly responds in a human-like manner.
The replies are relevant and coherent, as well as grammatically correct.
How is this possible?
The computers are actually taught different patterns and nuances of human language.
English is the most common.
This language training includes grammar and syntax, but most importantly, context.
They are constantly learning and improving as they interact with humans.
This helps them to become more accurate and helpful as time marches on.
Here’s an example of when I asked the DuckDuckGo search engine who won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2022.
The response is a list of websites, some pictures, perhaps some videos, maybe even a PDF.
The results are based on the search engine algorithms and may not even contain the most recent information.
Plus, I must now click on the results, read the information, and determine if that’s what I’m looking for.
Here is the AI chatbot reply.
It responds in a human-like manner, as if we were carrying on a conversation.
In addition, unlike search engines, AI chatbots learn and remember
If you ask it a follow-up question or to do another task, it remembers the previous question in its response, or what is referred to as
A chatbot understands a follow-up query much better so that it can provide more relevant and accurate responses that are more interactive and natural.
If I ask a search engine a follow-up question such as, “What is the Coda plot?”, it again gives me a list of websites that I must research to find an answer.
On the chatbot follow-up prompt, I have not mentioned Coda nor the
2022 Academy Award.
It remembers Coda from the previous query and responds accordingly.
If I’m not happy with this response, I could view other drafts.
Here’s a second and a third, and I can even ask it to regenerate if I’m unhappy with all of them.
