The Plaza Hotel was the site for an amazing Bat Mitzvah celebration. The ball room was transformed into a circus big top with the Bat Mitzvah girl dressed in a duplicate jacket worn by Britney Spears on her “Circus” tour complete with a top hat and fishnet stockings.

The ballroom itself was recarpeted in lavender with purple theatrical lights hanging from the vaulted ceiling. Vases with violet orchids, hydrangeas and roses bloomed on crystal covered tables. To complete the theme a troupe of Circue du Soleil performed with the Bat Mitzvah girl to the amazement of the 400 guests and the tears of the mother.

The six figure event seemed more like a coronation than a Bat Mitzvah.

The Rabbi of the synagogue was quoted as saying “It’s called ‘Keeping up with the Steins.’ I think some of these families need to concentrate more on the ‘mitzvah’ and less on the ‘bar.’” What do you think?
